Brain Freeze: The Science of Ice Cream

Celebrate National Ice Cream Day at the Lancaster Science Factory during Brain Freeze: The Science of Ice Cream, proudly sponsored by Lancaster Country Day School and Eurofins. 

Spend the day exploring the science behind one of everyone’s favorite frozen treats through hands-on STEM activities, special guests, interactive experiences, and delicious ice cream. 

Included with Admission 

• Color changing milk experiment in Castagna Learning Center 

• Ice melt experiment at the Science Cafe 

• Meet Allie Moo 2 and learn about dairy and milk production 

• Visit the Lancaster Country Day School activity table to participate in a themed activity and learn more about the school

• Enjoy complimentary ice cream samples from TJ’s Ice Cream while supplies last. The first 200 samples are complimentary. After the complimentary samples have been distributed, TJ’s Ice Cream will remain onsite with hand-dipped ice cream and prepackaged treats available for purchase, including allergy-friendly, dairy-free, and gluten-free options. 

Eurofins Ice Cream Science Presentations 

Join Eurofins scientists for an engaging, approximately 30-minute presentation exploring the science behind making ice cream. Learn how simple ingredients become a frozen treat while discovering the chemistry behind the freezing process through a live demonstration. 

Following each presentation, guests will receive a small cup of vanilla ice cream topped with festive red and blue sprinkles in celebration of America’s 250th birthday (while supplies last).

How to Attend 

• Reserve a The Science of Ice Cream Presentation Ticket for your preferred presentation for every guest attending. 

• Choose the admission option that works best for your family, including advance online tickets, admission purchased upon arrival, memberships, library passes, and other eligible admission programs. 

• Arrive before your selected presentation time. 

Important 

• Ice Cream Science Presentation reservations and Lancaster Science Factory admission are separate. An Ice Cream Science Presentation reservation does not include admission, and admission does not include an Ice Cream Science Presentation reservation. 

• Seating is limited to 70 guests per presentation. Reserve your presentation ticket in advance for all guests attending the presentation. All attendees, including members and guests using free admission programs, should reserve one ticket for each person attending the presentation. 

• Children under 5 must remain seated with their parent or guardian during the presentation. 

• Please arrive before your selected presentation time. To accommodate as many guests as possible, unclaimed reservations may be released to other visitors 5 minutes after the presentation begins. 

Admission to Lancaster Science Factory is required and is not included with your presentation reservation.
